A small scale study by the American Heart Association, which included less than 50 participants, found that blockages in the carotid arteries had 16x higher micronanoplastics in arteries with plaque compared to those with no plaque and 51x higher micronanoplastics from those who had experienced a stroke, mini-stroke, or temporary blockage of blood to the retina leading to loss of vision.

Said in layman’s terms, this means the more plaque you have in your diet that is adding up in your veins and arteries, the more likely it is that that plaque is retaining micro plastics which then have a higher probability to cause cancer or other diseases.

The researchers also found no link between the amount of micronanoplastics and signs of sudden inflammation.
